However, proper sample preparation is the prerequisite for successful EBSD — obtaining a flat, clean, and deformation-free sample surface. Mechanical polishing tends to introduce plastic deformation layers that mask the true microstructure; residual deformation layers, residual stress, or surface contamination can all cause a drastic drop in indexing rate. It is essential to strictly follow a combined process of "progressive mechanical grinding & polishing + vibratory polishing" to obtain high-resolution samples and reliable data.

The following preparation procedure is provided for reference:
● Grind the sample flat using P400 metallographic abrasive paper;
● Fine grind using POS grinding disc + 9μm PD-WT polishing suspension;
● Polish using SC-JP polishing cloth + 3μm PD-WT polishing suspension;
● Polish using ZN-ZP polishing cloth + 50nm SO-T401 polishing suspension;
● Vibratory polish using ZN-ZP polishing cloth + 50nm SO-T401 polishing suspension.
